Welcome to Family Nibbles

Welcome. I’ve been doing a lot of genealogical research on our families, and thinking about how to share the great stories and people.

A family history book seemed too daunting. At a recent genealogy conference, I heard about a strategy of writing “small bites”. So… Family Nibbles. One story at a time.

First, some housekeeping details.

I’ll include the family relationship of whoever is the subject of a post, but it will be referenced from the generation of Joe and Mike and their cousins, not me. For example, Ben Teply’s relationship will be great-grandfather.

I hope you enjoy the stories of our family. And I hope one or two of you will carry on with more research and more stories.

Happy reading.

Hi there. Very interesting research. My grandfather was Cornelius Gallagher. I was visiting my grandma during the making of molly Maguires. We played in the stripens! No one cared. Lol. Grandfather worked the mines as engineer. He died of black lung. They lived so poorly. Sold their soul to The Company store. Mines paid them and in turn they gave it right back and oweing money indefinitely. I’m in ancestry and I think Patrick was related. My email is knuterockney@gmail.com thank you

      Hi Joan,

Thanks for writing. Your story about Eckley and Molly Maguires is great. Eckley is such a treasure for those of us whose ancestors lived and worked there.

Tell me more about Cornelius Gallagher, and how you suspect he is related to Patrick. There are several Gallaghers there, but I’ve had trouble linking them. I just recently heard from Mike Gallagher, whose ancestors Daniel and Hannah Gallagher were there too. I wish we could tie some of them together.

      Mark
