Goodbye Bohemia

Can you believe it? We’ve met nine generations of Teply ancestors.

We seen their houses and farms, visited their churches and cemeteries, and learned about their lifestyle. It’s been fun.

Nine generations of Teplys in Bohemia

But we’re at a brick wall with Vaclav and Suzana Teply (10G). We don’t have any info before 1650.

There’s more to be done. I haven’t explored land records. A visit to the local archives in Polička would be a good excuse for a trip, because records aren’t online.

I’ll leave it to the next generation of Teply genealogists to follow up. And to photograph the correct houses.

And to feel that special feeling when you visit the places your ancestors lived and worked and died.

Good bye Bohemia Teplys. We’ll take up your stories in America.

Nibbles Extra Credit

Before departing, we went out for a nice dinner in a local pub.

We ordered some wine and an appetizer.

Cathy got up to go to the restroom.

Joseph: Katerina... Katerina...

Cathy: Grandpa! What are you doing here?

Joseph: We wanted to say goodbye.
Cathy: Oh, it's so great to see you all again.

Cathy: We went to Pustá Rybná, just as you asked.

Frantiska: Yes, we know. We were there.

Ferdinand: But Katka. Now that you're leaving, we are all so sad.

Cathy: Don't be sad. It's great that we all met.

Cathy: And I'm going to tell everyone at home all about you.

Terezie: Katka, have a shot of Slivovice with us before you go.

Josepha: And I'll see you in Kansas.

I was enjoying my beet soup when Cathy returned.

Mark: What's up? You were gone a long time.

Cathy: Oh nothing.

Mark: What took you so long?

Cathy: I was talking to some nice people at that table over there.

As we enjoyed our dinner, I kept imagining that I smelled plum brandy.

Thanks once again for your very kind words. Agreed, I’m proud to be a (kinda) Teply too.

Stay tuned for some news from Wisconsin.

Thank you. I’ve learned a lot too.

More Teply stories coming. Your field – a post about PLSS. So don’t hold me accountable to 100% accuracy. It’s a story.
