In fall of 1683, Elizabeth Jervis and her two children disembarked their ship at Chester, Pennsylvania. That’s the moment that our Jarvis ancestors first arrived in America.

Joseph Jervis died in 1752.
What an interesting life. Born in England. One of the first settlers of William Penn’s Pennsylvania. One of the first settlers to go west to Lancaster County. Farmer, miller, trader, entrepreneur, innkeeper, scoundrel.

Continue readingOur ancestor Elizabeth Jarvis was likely from England, likely a Quaker, and likely immigrated to Pennsylvania around 1682. She had two children. Her husband likely died on the voyage to Pennsylvania or shortly after arrival.
90 – The Voyage
At the June 5, 1683 Cheshire Quarterly Meeting, Henry Maddock was appointed to manage the payment for Elizabeth Jervis’ passage to Pennsylvania.
Elizabeth would have needed help arranging the voyage, and she would need a place to live when she arrived. I’m guessing that Henry Maddock helped Elizabeth with her arrangements.
